The final solution: The process of banning smoking in your own home to begin late 2009

Recession or no recession, there is no financial constraint on the public sector where destruction of your liberties is concerned.

The fevered quickstep of the anti-smoking lobby is turning into a sprint as they frantically try to pass as much draconian legislation as humanly possible before the next election.

You may own your home but if you, hahahaha, think you should be entitled to free and quiet possessioon therein, you've got another think coming. By the end of this year, your home becomes the next target for those who wish to dictate every aspect of your life.

A senior policy manager from the Department of Health for England has praised a Lincolnshire project which encourages people to cut back on or completely quit smoking in the home.

There's that 'encourage' word again. Like they 'encouraged' all business owners to force smokers outside or be punished with crippling fines, and the loss of their livelihoods, if they failed to comply.

John Tilley from the Department of Health, said:

“Action on smoking in the home will be a necessary part of future strategy on tobacco control."

The event in Lincolnshire follows national government consultation on the future of tobacco control, with a new strategy due to be published by the end of 2009.

Now, where this consultation squirrelled itself away, God only knows, but I have an inkling that it may well have been nestling in the bowels of the multitude of state-sponsored smokefree regional authority web-sites and fake charity mailshots.

YOU weren't invited. Well, what did you expect? This is the Labour-fuelled public sector we are talking here.

And to think there was a time, in the not-so-distant past, where we used to pity those who lived under Eastern European dictatorships.

Enjoying your 'free' country, are you?

To date the smoking ban has been one of the great failings in History, Billions spent, result no drop in smoking cessation.

Its no surprise that they are looking at new tactics after all they promised the EU they would cut smoking rates and have failed miserably.

As they say in psychology " hang on to those words" “Action on smoking in the home will be a necessary part of future strategy on tobacco control." Do not forget to tell your friends.

I don't see how they will ever enforce this.

I spend most of my early mornings and late evenings parked on the M6 and always see lorry drivers sparking up in their cabs.

If they can't enforce it there, how do they ever think they'll be able to enforce it our homes?

What are they going to do? Kids grassing on us (thanks to the ads) or will they have inspectors coming round to smell our homes?

I'm with Gigits. I don't see it as enforceable. And if they ever were to start sending people round to either inspect the place or install telescreens, the reaction on the sink estates would be one of the few inatances when it might be worth chancing a walk around some of those places with a video camera (it's not like there are ever any coppers there to confiscate/steal it).

Weeell, they could just make smoke detectors a legal requirement, couldn't they?

Can't get a mortgage without fire insurance, can't get fire insurance with smoke detectors?

Of course they would have to be "aproved" smoke detectors, i.e. NOT the ones that can ignore cigarette smoke.

Any fucking council jobsworth who tries to stop me smoking in my own home is going to get my boot in his balls.

And you had better have big, hobnailed boots on Anon because this is definitely coming. My block of flats has got me down as a fire hazard because I smoke, the next logical (or illogical)step is to ban me from smoking inside my own home, it has been tried and tested in the US of fucking A! I have stickers on my front door saying I am the office for Freedom2Choose and smokers rights. I am not for gun ownership but if they try and make an issue out of my smoking in my own flat then I will buy one and no fucker will get in to fuck with me! (There's one for the anti-terrorist brigade that monitor the web...fuck them.)
