Arise Sir Jack [McConnell]

What's a guy gotta do to get a knighthood around here?

It was under Jack McConnell that the 2006 smoking ban was introduced in Scotland, meaning that people could not smoke inside public buildings such as restaurants, pubs and clubs. This ban was then introduced in England later.
Tell me Jack, why did you go into politics?

I was inspired to get involved in politics because I believe in real and lasting social engineering change to create fairer opportunities and end discrimination and I believe in the power of people to bring about that change.
But what about the chiiildren? Oh...

We must build societies where young people are protected from harm and given the support and encouragement necessary so that they can realise their full potential.
For me this matters as much in Scotland, in Malawi or China. There can be no artificial boundaries in the 21st century is to see the fulfilment of human potential.
Malawi? Dirt poor Malawi? How do they derive their income then? You know, to save the poor chiiildren? Apart from Tea, Sugar or Cotton?

Main exports: Tobacco, tea, sugar, cotton

Thank god people like you are saving people from themselves so that they can live a long and prosperous li...oh...

Life expectancy: 52 years (men), 54 years (women) (UN)
Must be the fags wot done it eh. (Got you a knighthood I mean.)
