That annual “lets rip off the taxpayer to the tune of 1 million quid” homage to NRT products, National No Smoking day, is upon us.
The blogosphere is awash with smokers who have been eagerly awaiting this day to arrive (it’s the highlight of their calendar year apparently) so that they can give their computers a rest from SHS (Second Hand Smoke.) Bloggers like Raedwald, Leg_Iron, Dick Puddlecote, Captain Ranty and GrumpyOldTwat (from whom the above picture was unashamedly stolen,) to name but a few.
As a mark of respect for this auspicious occasion I put my rollups away on the stroke of midnight last night….I bloody well did…honest you righteous, preachy bastards, I did. Ok, one minute later I got them out again but it’s the thought that counts, isn’t it?
Anyway I needed a smoke as I listened to these two Simon Clark and Pat Carney being interviewed on Five Live.
Simon Clark Cllr Pat CarneyPat Carney, a councillor in Manchester wants Manchester cinemas to put an ‘18’ rating on any movie where a cigarette is seen being smoked as he thinks it’s a Big Tobacco attempt at “product placement” and just has to think of the cheeeeldren. Listen and weep. Simon lets rip near the end about Nick Hogan’s jailing for daring to allow people to smoke in HIS pub. Simon, you played a blinder.

Thanks for the link and for posting the audio, TBY. Agreed, he was bang on form.
Yep DP, Simon rightly took the hump when the interviewer was determined to brand forest as a Pro-smoking group rather than Pro-choice, typical tactic of the anti-smoker.
Well said Simon, they never mention who funds ASH do they, how many billions have they had from the tobacco companies?
