Dirty rotten, lying basterds!

Yesterday Spain enacted it's most draconian smoking ban aping the British model of the anti smoking cartel that has the unprecedented ear of politicians. Listen to the Restauranteurs and bar owners as they explain how this swinging ban will impact on their businesses. Also listen to the telling comment by the commentator as she says that the socialist government in Spain wants to impose the strictest anti smoking laws that Europe have ever enacted, even surpassing the UK's anti smoking laws. Listen as they blame smoking for the killing of 55.000 deaths in that country.

But the ordinary drinking smoker that frequents bars and restaurants sees through this bullshit and sees the hypocrisy in government interferance in their leisure time.

The time is right to say NO, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

We are too tollerant of the missinformed.

Well the new 'democracy' of Bhutan is locking up smokers so no doubt we'll be seeing the re-appearance of camps in Europe in the not too distant future?

The reason "they" felt the need to enact this draconian ban is because the Spanish largely ignored the original law (unlike we cowardly British), what is to say that they won't similarly ignore this one?

Yes SH, as blogged by here.

That was my first thoughts Banned but do you remember the Irish question? They were browbeaten until they said YES to the EU. I hope not in this case.

The last attempt at a smoking ban here (Spain), if I recall correctly, allowed the premises of less than a certain size to choose whether to allow smoking on the premises or not.

Surprisingly, for the politician who is pushing this ban, pretty much all the bars continued to allow it. This annoyed them (her) quite a bit, hence the new legislation.

It remains to be seen whether it will be enforced yet, or if it will be selectively enforced (coastal areas - yes, small spanish villages - no), though I fear for the bars here. They have already had a terrible time over the past 12 months and bringing this in during winter (when it's too cold to sit outside in the evenings) will hit them hard.

This is the BIGGEST LIE OF 2011 stated by the National Committee for the Prevention of Tobacco (CNPT) in Spain.

" Ireland, for example, saw a 13.7 percent increase in employment in the sector, France witnessed a 3 percent rise in income, while in Britain the number of bars increased by about 14 percent."

GESTAPO tactics start in Spain.

THE consumer rights organization FACUA has set up a special website where people can report establishments, venues, etc for violating the new anti-smoking laws which came into effect on January 2. www.facua.org.

If you're interested it appears that the introduction isn't going to be as straightforward as the politicians hoped:
